Biography:

Annie leads the Environment and Renewable Energy team of SROS and holds science qualifications from Auckland University, NZ (where she attained her Bachelor of Science specializing in Environmental Science) and Victoria University, NZ (where she graduated with a Master of Environmental Studies). Having grown up in Samoa, Annie understands the significance of managing limited natural resources in a sustainable way, ensuring the availability of natural resources for generations to come. She believes that this can be achieved through careful monitoring and management of natural resources, promoting a circular economy where waste is managed and re-purposed, and investing in renewable energy technologies.

Biography:

As a keen environmentalist, Moon specializes in applying her expertise to strategic planning, environmental impact assessments, and research in renewable energy pathways. She has also built solid connections with stakeholders for endorsing technical and advisory services offered by the Environment and Renewable Energy Division. Moon holds a Mechanical Engineering degree specializing in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia. Her vision for the future encompasses a zero-waste economy driven by renewable energy sources.

Biography:

Faafetai Kolose is currently one of the Principal Research Scientist in the Environment and Renewable Energy division. Holding a Bachelor's degree in Physics and Technology and a Master’s degree in Renewable Energy, he oversees many renewable/sustainable related projects as it is one of his interests to successfully develop sustainable energy technologies, which are environmentally friendly for our country Samoa. Along with his range of research priorities, Faafetai is also the 2020 SROS Social Club president and during his spare time, he enjoys interacting with his colleagues and watching comic movies.

Biography:

Fiti is a Senior Research Scientist for the Environment and Renewable Energy Division and started his employment at SROS soon after graduating from the National University of Samoa with a Bachelor of Science degree. Fiti views SROS as a great starting point for any keen local researchers looking to pursue a career in the vast field of science and finds the research work both challenging and rewarding. Fiti is currently the main researcher looking into waste management and processing trials for agriculture waste to product, and he appreciates that there is a good balance between fieldwork, lab work, and desk work. In his spare time, Fiti enjoys playing volleyball and touch rugby, and downtime while enjoying SROS’s own taro whiskey.

Biography

As a research scientist for the Environment & Renewable Energy team, Rodney leads the water quality monitoring work for many priority sites throughout Samoa and is also heavily involved in multiple environmental monitoring projects. Rodney holds a Bachelor of Science from the National University of Samoa, majoring in environmental and computer studies. Rodney envisions cleaner waterways for our communities to utilize, through improved and sustainable water management practices.

Biography

Aiomanu is currently employed as one of the research scientists for the Environment and Renewable Energy division. She holds a Bachelor of Environmental Science majoring in Biology pathway from the University of the South Pacific, Laucala, and is currently one of the main scientists involved in SROS bio-medicinal work, specifically, screening anti-diabetic potential of Samoa’s natural plant and marine resources. Aiomanu is also heavily involved in solar energy storage battery research.  Aiomanu enjoys reading and learning new things that would help work towards the goal of improving Samoa’s sustainability technology and also utilizing the healing properties of medicinal plants in Samoa.

Biography

Malone Paleni Chu Ling is a research scientist for the Environment and Renewable Energy Division, holding a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji. One of his interests is investigating ways to preserve and conserve local resources for a cleaner Samoa and for the future generation to come; and also to help find medicine from local natural resources to help the people. He is one of the scientists involved in bio-medicinal research (anti-diabetes potential of Samoa’s plant and marine resources), as well as waste management projects looking to how local waste can be re-processed into useful products. His hobbies are hiking, playing basketball, boxing, drawing and any fun outdoor activities, and his favorite food is apple.

Biography:

Mene is a technical assistant for ERE and provides crucial support to many of the team’s research tasks. He assists environment monitoring tasks during regular sampling rounds, as well as laboratory activities by ensuring regular laboratory consumables are re-stocked, stored safely away, and assists with cleaning to ensure compliance with health and safety policies.

Biography:

Pio is a keen assistant for many ERE energy projects as well as in the laboratory as an assisting technician. He supports the ongoing biogas research trials and is charged with operating the biogas unit including troubleshooting any issues that may arise. In addition, he is also part of the water quality monitoring team that monitors a range of waterways on a monthly basis.
