The Food Science & Technology Division (FSTD) of the Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (SROS) is implementing the last phase of its Letter of Agreement (LOA) consultancy work with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) to “Build capacity of youth and young farmers on value added food processing practices”. Earlier this month the second activity ‘production and marketing trials’ was conducted by selected trained farmers from both Savai’i and Upolu for some products included in the training ( Desiccated coconut, herbal tea, Breadfruit & Taro fries). The objective was to produce, package and market these prototype products to allow young farmers to experience firsthand the issues involved in such an endeavour. The experience from this activity will be shared through an end of project workshop (last activity) to be implemented in October for all the trained farmers to complete this work.
