The Scientific Research Organisation of Samoa (SROS) continues to strive towards achieving its mission to be one of the most competent and well equipped testing facilities in the Pacific, in which it provides relevant high quality and world class testing services in goods, food and food products, narcotics, biological, atmospheric as well as environmental samples. This target can only be realised and achieved by well qualified staffs, state of the art equipment and world class facilities. It is the reason why the board of directors and the Government of Samoa agreed to SROS management proposal to upgrade the standards of its testing laboratories.

A combined prayer service between MAF and SROS was held on Wednesday, 08 January 2020 at SROS headquarters to officially kick start the new year. Lead by Rev. Reupena Asiata, the devotional gathering not only served to dedicate in prayer the journey ahead, but also to remind everyone of the importance of commitment and hard work in accomplishing tasks and goals. Additional reminders and encouragement were articulated by Associate Minister, Hon. Faasootauloa Pati Taulapapa, which focused on the need for the two ministries to collaborate more and complement each other in their endeavor to achieve government priorities in the agriculture sector and scientific research. The prayer service concluded with acknowledgements by SROS CEO, Dr. Seuseu Tauati, thanking Rev. Reupena Asiata, Hon. Faasootauloa, SROS Chairman, and the staff of both ministries for their attendance.

Two SROS staff with the Food Science & Technology Division attended and successfully completed the Supervisor’s and Approved Person’s course for UHT (ultra- heat treated) Processing and Aseptic Packaging of low acid and acid foods and beverages, held at the FoodBowl, Auckland, and conducted by DWC FoodTech, Australia. Ms Kuinimeri Finau and Mr Siope Pele attended the one week intensive training from the 18th to the 22nd of November 2019.
